General Aircraft limited (GAL) was formed in 1931 to produce aircraft of the monospar wing design, these twin engine light aircraft were designed by the owner Helmut J. Stieger. 28 aircraft were built at Croydon Aerodrome between 1932 and 1934.
GAL principly built aircarft under sub contract, including Hawker Fury II's and Hawker Hinds.
The company is best known for its design of the GAL 49 Hamilcar heavylift glider of World war 2.
After World War 2 the company designed the GAL 60 Universal which went on to become the Blackburn Beverley when the company merged with Blackburn Aircraft Ltd in 1949.
